City Approved for State Grant to Remove Dead & Unsafe Trees

CITY APPROVED FOR STATE GRANT TO REMOVE DEAD & UNSAFE TREES

Beginning this spring, contractors and city crews will begin trimming, pruning, and removing dead or unsafe trees primarily in the parks. The focus areas will be Brookside Park, Chautauqua Park, Centennial Park, and along the Freedom Trail. The work is funded through a $75,000 grant awarded to the City of Hot Springs from the South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

Under the grant, contractors and our crew will trim and prune several trees as necessary and remove a handful of unsafe trees. The grant requires that for every one tree removed, the city will plant two replacement trees. Our goal through this grant is to create a safer, cleaner, greener, and more inviting environment for our residents and visitors.
